John R. “Fred” Meurs (1955 – 2025)

John R. “Fred” Meurs, 69, of Fulton, IL, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Clinton, IA.

John was born October 21, 1955, in Clinton, to Raymond and Alva Jean (Temple) Meurs.  He was a graduate of Fulton High School.  On June 6, 1992, he married Deborah K. Newman, in their family home in Garden Plain, IL.  John had a dedicated 40-year career at 3M in Cordova, IL, before his retirement.  He loved tending to his garden, cooking delicious meals, and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife, Deb; daughter, Allison (Juan Lucas) Meurs of Arlington Heights, IL; beloved golden retriever, Gracie; stepchildren, Erica (Shawn Ryan) Meunier and Nate Hege, both of Clinton, IA; three step-grandchildren, Christopher, Brittney, and Ivy; sister, Sandra (Walter) Gorzney of Morrison, IL; brothers, Jimmie (Becky) Meurs of Davenport, IA, and Scott (Dawn) Meurs of Morrison, IL; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, June Newman.

Per his wishes, Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Manny’s Too in Fulton.

The Fulton Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A memorial has been established.
