John J. Hamstra (1918 – 2015)

, 96, of Good Neighbor Care, Sterling, IL, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Good Neighbor Care.

John was born December 1, 1918, in Mt. Carroll, IL, to Charles and Henrietta (Tillema) Hamstra. He was educated in the Whiteside County School system. John served in the U. S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Clara Venhuizen on October 13, 1945, in Morrison. She died March 2, 1971. He later married Tee (Talliena) Herlein on February 3, 1973, in Des Moines, IA. She died April 15, 2004. John worked at General Electric in Morrison for 33 years. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. John enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Eads of Leesburg, FL, and Cindy (Brett) Gray of Breckenridge, CO; one son, Philip (Sally) Hamstra of Morrison; four grandchildren, Dr. Jon (Angie) Eads, Dr. Mike (Kristy) Eads, Adam Hamstra, and Nyla Hamstra; eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara; his second wife, Tee; two sisters, Myra Waters and Ellen Golding; one brother, Al Hamstra.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

OFFICIATING:  Ken Renkes, Director of Congregational Care, Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION:  2:30 p.m., until the time of the service, Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL

MEMORIALS:  Serenity Hospice, Oregon, IL
