John Cowley, 76, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015, at his home.
Born December 23, 1938, in Sterling, IL, he was a son of Robert Francis and Mary (Forth) Cowley. John served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post 296. He was an avid camper and bowler. John was well respected and loved at Timber Lake Camp Ground. He enjoyed following the Chicago Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bulls.
Survivors include his daughters, Jean (Scott) Pedersen of Rock Falls, IL, Sharon (Rick) Engel of Sterling, and Kathy Cowley of Sterling; his sons, John Cowley, Jr. of East Moline, IL, Dan E. Cowley of Morrison, and Scott (Ruth) Cowley of Rock Falls; his sisters, Mary Ann Dettman of Rock Falls, Vella Simpson of Rock Falls, Jane Koeppen of Rock Falls, Peggy Drew of Dixon, IL, Carol Jacobs of Florida; his brothers, Robert Cowley of Washington, Jim Cowley of Oklahoma, and Lee Cowley of Alabama; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Donna, and a brother, George.
Visitation will be from noon to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls, IL. Military honors will be accorded by the Sterling American Legion Post 296 immediately following the visitation.
Cremation rites will then take place.
The family invites everyone to a Celebration of John’s Life at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Sterling, IL, immediately after the visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, January 10, 2015.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
