Johanna Vegter, 94, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the nursing home.
Johanna was born January 31, 1920, to Joe and Minnie (Jarsema) Ottens. She was educated in the rural Morrison grade schools. She married Martin “Mike” Vegter on March 1, 1940, in Morrison. He died June 2, 1991. Johanna worked at Luella Armstrong’s Dress Shop in Morrison for some time, but she was primarily a caregiver and homemaker. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where she was active in the Philathea Society. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and playing Bingo. Johanna frequently traveled and was always accompanied by family.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Phil DeWeerdt) Rus of Morrison; one son, John (Kathe) Vegter of Morrison; seven grandchildren, Dan (Donna) Rus, Jeff (Barb) Rus, Darrin (Teri) Rus, Tim (Jill) Vegter, Cindy Ottens, Tony (fianceé Lisa Bright) Walker, Amy (Pete) Walker; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jessie Dykema and Luella (Dennis) Buis, both of Morrison, Della Mae (Allen) Deelsnyder of Fulton, IL, and Betty (Donald) Matthews of CA; one brother, Harvey Ottens of Morrison; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; one daughter, Linda Walker; two sisters, Katherine Bielema and Pauline Ottens; three brothers, David, Gerald and LaVerne Ottens.

VISITATION: 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Morrison United Methodist Church, Morrison, IL
INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
