Jean E. Cain-Temple, 91, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, in Morrison.

Jean was born December 13, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant Township (Morrison), IL, to Burnie E. and Ellen Mae (Oostenryk) Engelkens. Jean was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a 1950 graduate of Morrison High School. She was a 1953 graduate of Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. She married William J. Cain on September 11, 1953, in Morrison, IL. He died August 4, 2002. She later married Dalbert E. Temple on April 8, 2006, in Fulton, IL. He died June 19, 2021. Jean dedicated her life to Nursing, starting her career at Morrison Community Hospital from 1953 to 1954, then working for Dr. David Fell from 1954 to 1956. She continued part-time work at Morrison Community Hospital from 1957 to 1971, before returning to full-time employment with Dr. Vandermyde from 1971 until her retirement in 1995. A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, Jean was actively involved in the United Presbyterian Women, served as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and Elder for many years. Her hobbies included antiquing, collecting Tea Leaf, traveling, and shopping with “The Five Foxy Fascinators.” She was also a member of the former Morrison Country Club.

Survivors include herdaughter, Beth (Kevin) Short of Camanche, IA; son, Thomas (Eileen) Cain of Oregon, IL; stepdaughters, Sharon (Dr. Gordon) Renkes of Columbus, OH, Sandra (Gary) Poskin of Clinton, IA, Sheila (Don) Dykstra of Fulton, and Susan Temple of Morrison; eight grandchildren, Melissa Bowers, Brian (Sarah) Cain, Jonathan (Julie) Cain, Candace (Jeremy) Marquis, Emily Cook, Lucas Short, Matt Short and Megan Oksana-Cain; 11 stepgrandchildren, Nathan (Beth Marland) Renkes, Rachel (Bob) Concitis, Jennifer (Chad) Schmidt, Cindy (Josh) Krogmann, Carissa (Matt) Johnson, Lana (Dave) Poskin-Klod, Andrea (Scott) Eggers, Elizabeth (Eric) Berns, Samantha (John) Sterenberg, Rebecca (Cole) Kramer, and Matthew (Brittany) VanDrew; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brooklyn Bowers, Ella Whiting, Kylie Whitman, Gony, Sarah, and Aaliyah Tim, and Harper Bagg; 22 step-great-grandchildren, Kristin Marland, Spencer, Sidney, and Paul Renkes, Bradley, Rebekah, and Bennett Concitis, Alexis, Kayla, and Jayden Krogmann, Breanna Tschantz, and Emily Eggers, Gavin and Ella Berns, Jeremiah and Claire Sterenberg, Dominick, Paisley, and Kennedy Kramer, Waylon, Jacob, and Brayden VanDrew; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Cady and Lucy Tschantz; daughter in law, Lori Cain of Cayuga, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Bill; second husband, Dalbert; son, Philip Cain; sisters, Lorraine Temple, Alice Cordes, and Ruth Leech; grandson, Scott Bowers.

Her Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, IL, with Rev. Dr. Michael Selburg, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Dr. James A. Camp, Retired Pastor, co-officiating.

Per Jean’s wishes, Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the start of the service.

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.

A memorial has been established to Ronald McDonald House.
