jean borgmanJean D. Borgman, 98, of Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Alverno.

Jean was born July 26, 1918, in Fulton, to Dick and Etta (Wiersema-Barsema) Borgman. He was educated in the Mt. Hope grade school of rural Whiteside County and was a 1937 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL.  Jean served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII. Jean married Leona P. Schaver-Heun on October 3, 1947, in Fulton. She died December 10, 2007. Jean farmed in the Garden Plain area for 41 years; while farming, he worked for American Air Filter in Morrison, IL. Most recently, he worked for the former Clinton Corn Processing Company, until retiring in 1980. Jean attended Church of the Open Door in Clinton and was a 69 year member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402. He went on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, in 2011. Jean enjoyed traveling with his wife Leona.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Jake) Temple of Fulton and Rhonda (Roger) Weis of Morrison; two sons, LaVerne (Kathy) Borgman and Richard (Betty) Borgman both of Fulton; six grandchildren, Brenda Firch, Dr. Christopher (Becky) Borgman, Daniel (Bridget) Mitchell, Joshua (Amy) Mitchell, Andrea (Kelly) Carder, and Casey (Jason) Feller; seven step-grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Herch, Robby (Rachel) Weis, Sean Weis, Stacy (Serg) Bouldoukian, Shawn Picolotti, Lynette (Ed) Francke, and Stacey (Brian) Sandholdt; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchldren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Borgman; one grandson, Eric Borgman; one step-grandson, Barry Legel; one sister, Una Vos; one brother, Louis Borgman; two half-sisters, Marjorie Vogel-Bielema and Esther Wiersema-Bielema; one half-brother, Milton Barsema.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  11:00 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Church of the Open Door, Clinton, IA

OFFICIATING:  Pastor John Loyd, Assistant Pastor at Church of the Open Door, Clinton, IA

VISITATION:  9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Church of the Open Door, Clinton, IA

INTERMENT:  Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL

The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
