Janice E. Patten, 76, of Morrison, IL, died Sunday, January 29, 2017, at The Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA.
Janice was born June 10, 1940, in Morrison, to Renzie J. and Iva (Tichler) Buikema. She was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Morrison High School. She married Tommy R. Patten on September 9, 1961, in Morrison. Janice was first employed by the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and later at Volckmann Furniture. She then was employed as a secretary at the Morrison Institute of Technology in its early years. She later was employed by General Electric in Morrison until retiring in 1998. Janice was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. She was an avid counted cross stitcher. She enjoyed going to softball games and attending outdoor concerts. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy; two daughters, Julie (Mark) Allen of Overland Park, KS, and Lori Patten of Morrison; one son, Lynn (Sue) Patten of Morrison; five grandchildren, Scott Allen, Stephanie (Louis) Waterhouse, Anthoni Patten, Shawn (Michelle) Patten, and Ashlie (Cory) Lee; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Doug) Borop of Machesney Park, IL, and Beth (Steve) Wroble of Morrison; one brother, Allen (Hope) Buikema of Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Esther Hamstra; two brothers-in-law, Donald VanZuiden and Gerald Hamstra.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017, for family and friends at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL, followed by a luncheon at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
