James P. Snyder, 84, of Sarah Harding, Clinton, IA, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton.
Jim was born October 10, 1930, in Ustick Township, IL, to Cornelius and Grace (Smith) Snyder. He was educated in the Morrison Grade School and was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim married Beverly J. Handel on May 29, 1955, in Chadwick, IL. She died June 13, 2002. He was employed at Clinton Corn and Processing in Clinton, retiring in 1980. He then was employed by the Clinton Community Schools for 12 years. Jim was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, where he served as a deacon. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with the family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet (Bill) Thomsen of Olin, IA; one son, Mark (Barb Carstensen) Snyder of Goose Lake, IA; four grandchildren, Nathan Snyder, Brandon Snyder, Karissa (Billy) Ring, and Kyle Kuntz; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arlyn (Marilyn) Snyder of Rockford, IL, and George (Carolyn) Snyder of Morrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond, and Bill Snyder.
