It’s Time to Order Lions Club Roses

Posted by

RosesMorrison Lions Club members are taking orders for roses to be delivered on Good Friday, April 10, 2020.  Colors cannot be guaranteed, but your request will be honored as closely as possible.  The colors are brilliant reds, pinks, mauves, yellows, and pinks as well as other combinations.  The price is $15 per dozen.  The deadline for placing your order is Sunday, April 5.  Please contact any Lions Club member or call Jim Blakemore at 815-772-3744, Darlene Smith at 815-772-2346, or Flora Stralow at 815-772-4874.  We appreciate the community support for this fundraiser, which supports our local youth education scholarships and eyeglasses for kids initiative in conjunction with CGH Medical Center.

An annual donation was approved for Morrison Youth Baseball and Softball.  Parents with children enrolled in daycare classes at Northside School and those not affiliated with the school system will receive information on vision screening provided by our club.  This is a simple picture taken by a special camera, and it will detect several eye diseases.  Simply stated, “a simple snap of a camera shutter will save a child’s sight for life.”  Parents will receive detailed information regarding this vision check along with permission slips, to be returned to teachers.  Screening is scheduled for Friday, March 20.  The service is free.  If a problem is detected a recommendation will be given to the parent to seek a doctor of their choice.

The District Convention will be held in Rock Falls, IL, on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7.  Darlene Smith, Bob Countryman, and Flora Stralow will represent the Morrison Club.  Elections will be held, informative speakers will present, and a memorial service will be part of the activities.  It will conclude on Saturday evening with dinner, entertainment, and a speaker.

District Governor Richard Delp visited the club on Tuesday, February 4.  DG Delp is a member of the Lanark[, IL,] Lions Club and has been a Lion for over 40 years.  His father also served as District Governor, and his grandfather was a Lion.  Recently, his daughter joined the Lanark Club.  The family has a long history of keeping the motto “We Serve.”  Lion Darlene Smith is shown with DG Delp.
