Anyone who has remodeled or built a home knows the value of their sweat equity and the hours of labor required to reach the final goal. No one knows better than Logan Kuehl and Ashley Vegter. They worked for the City of Morrison as painters in the summer of 2012.
The Odell Public Library Community Room, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, was transformed with seven gallons of paint and their considerable effort. First the walls had to be washed. Superintendent of Public Services Gary Tresenriter facilitated this with scaffolding for the teens. Holes were patched and sanded smooth. Then, “Glass Slipper” taupe paint was applied to three walls. The north, feature wall was transformed with “Sea” blue. Because of the large domed windows, the deep color does not overpower the room.
Executive Secretary Barb King hopes to have the west window wall painted the same. She is shown below with her daughters McKenna and Erika, left-to-right, on three of the new chairs purchased to update the facility. The girls worked on each of 50 black seats, unwrapping copius amounts of plastic and arranging chairs around the room.
Several City of Morrison employees collaborated on the color schemes for 2012 City Hall paint improvements. Last summer the lobby, Clerks’ Office, and Office of the Superintendent of Public Services were freshened. Tresenriter chose a deep terra cotta for his space. King, City Clerk Melanie Schroeder, and Accounting Director Shelli Sibley selected a neutral for theirs.
Downstairs, Chief of Police Brian Melton opted for rich blue in his office, lighter than “Sea.” He stated he hopes to have the outer office painted in 2013. It was King and Sibley who painted his space and the downstairs hallway, so he knows who to see about that.
The space adjacent to the Community Room is a Certified Kitchen and available for rent. Groups or individuals who require a large, preparatory food space can rent the kitchen by making an appointment at City Hall, 815-772-7657. Consider the kitchen if you have a food fundraiser or social event in the works for 2013.
If you need storage space in the kitchen, add $5 a day to these fees:
