The September meeting program of the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society will appeal to Civil War enthusiasts. It will feature Noah Nieber of Rock Valley College. He will discuss the little-known Illinois Monument, at the site of the notorious Confederate Hospital and Prison in Andersonville, GA.
Nieber, a student and historian, will discuss the significance of this monument, erected in 1912, commemorating 889 Illinois soldiers who died there during the Civil War.
The meeting is Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the CGH Medical Center Ryberg Auditorium, 100 E. LeFevre Road, Sterling, IL. It is open to everyone without charge. Refreshments will be served.
