Ida Mae Balk, 92, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the nursing home.
Ida Mae was born July 5, 1921, in Fulton to Ray and Reka (Vogel) Dykhuizen. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She married Paul Balk on January 18, 1941, in Clinton, IA. He died July 1, 1985. Ida Mae, along with her late husband Paul, owned and operated Balk Construction Company. She also was employed a W. G. Block Company in Clinton. Her most recent employment was with First Trust and Savings Bank in Albany, IL, as a bookkeeper. Ida Mae was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, where she was active in the church’s Rebecca and Dorcas Societies. She had served on the Board of Directors at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula (Michael) Welsh of Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren, Jody (William) Coutros, Crystal (Mark) Baron, Jill (Tim) Vegter, Rick (Jennifer) Westendorf, Scott (Katie) Preston, Jeffrey (Monica) Balk, Angela Balk, Elizabeth (Shawn) Coffey, and Kimberly (Adam) Bruggenwirth; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Van Vuren of Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, Brian Balk; three children, in infancy; one grandson, James Balk.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
OFFICIATING: Mr. Ken Renkes, Director of Congregational Care at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL
VISITATION: 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, until the time of the service, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
PRIVATE INTERMENT: Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL
