Some “spring cleaning” chores are pretty dramatic, such as flushing the City hydrants. Public Works Department staffer Kendra Kophamer unleashed this horizontal gusher on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 16031 Greenland Drive, Morrison, IL. The hydrant lies on the Hazel Road side of the corner property.
Water spewed for about ten minutes shortly after 2:00 p.m. It flowed under Bruce and Kim Hunter’s driveway and slid into a storm sewer at the corner of their front yard. The water pressure was this forceful the entire time.
Public Works Director Gary Tresenriter noted there are 250 hydrants across the City, but they are not routinely flushed. This occurs when citizens call City Hall (815-772-7657) to report a water quality complaint. If residents notice an iron taste or the smell of rotten eggs due to high sulfur levels, he urges them to notify the Public Works Department.
