Hugh “Whitey” Nelson, 87, of Morrison, IL, died on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
Whitey was born March 17, 1934, in Morrison, to Roy G. and Myra (Howard) Nelson. Whitey was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Morrison High School. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He married Janice M. DeVries on December 4, 1953, in Morrison. She died May 25, 2005. He later married Shirley M. Stralow on January 14, 2006, in Morrison. Whitey owned and operated Nelson Electric of Morrison. He also enjoyed farming in his spare time, being a farm kid at heart. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. Whitey enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Morrison Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; sons, Dan Nelson, Randy (Dana) Nelson, and Todd (Brenda) Nelson all of Morrison; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Marsha (Tom) Fagan of Fulton, IL, and Ann (Rick) Edwards of Bloomington, IL; stepson, Randy (Karen) Stralow of Morrison; eight step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Anabelle Tucker of Garden Plain, IL.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice; two sisters in infancy; brother, Howard R. Nelson.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrison, IL, with Rev. Anthony Appel, Pastor of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
A Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 a.m., until the time of the service.
The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
