Hospice of the Rock River Valley conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Ceremony was held for the building of a new hospice home in Sterling, IL. Land for the home was donated by Mr. Dick Prescott. The location is across from Morningside and the Sterling/Rock Falls Family YMCA on North Avenue E. in Sterling.
A large gathering attended the event. This included the HRRV Board of Directors, contractors, city officials, and donors to the project, along with local chamber and community members. Emily Taylor, HRRV Executive Director, and Carolyn Spencer, HRRV Hospice Home Project Manager, welcomed the crowd for attending and thanked showing their support. Mr. Prescott attended the event as well. His son and wife, who are from the Netherlands, spoke on behalf of the family. They are proud to be a contributor and are excited for the new hospice home. Scott Shumard, the Sterling City Manager, shared the same excitement for this new addition to the city. The added opportunities for end-of-life care will benefit the residents of the Sauk Valley area.
Community wide support is still needed for the project. Contributions can be made online at www.hospicerockriver.org. You may also donate in person, or mail your check to Hospice of the Rock River Valley, 2600 N. Locust Street, Sterling, IL 61081. Make checks out to Hospice Home Fund. There are naming rights available for larger contributions.
