How to Register and Vote in Illinois

The fourth Tuesday of September is National Voter Registration Day, September 22, 2020, this year.  This is 43 days before the General Election on Tuesday, November 3.  There is plenty of time to register to vote.  The registration period for the online voter registration system will close at 11:59 p.m., on October 18.  After the election, new registrations will be available on Thursday, November 5, for future elections .

Check that you are already registered to vote, by check the State Board of Election’s Voter Registration Lookup.

 

 

To vote In Illinois:

You must be a United States Citizen.
You must be 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General or Consolidated Election.
You must live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
You must not be serving a sentence of confinement in any penal institution as a result of a conviction.
You may not claim the right to vote anywhere else.

llinois offers online voter registration.  Register by mail to vote:  print a voter registration form; fill it out; mail it to Whiteside County Clerk’s Office, 200 E. Knox Street, Morrison, IL 61270.

You can register to vote in person at the Whiteside County Courthouse, 200 E. Knox Street, Morrison, IL, in County Clerk’s Office (on the Ground Floor), Monday-through-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., from Thursday, September 24, through Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Registration deadlines
Online: Oct. 18
By mail: Postmarked by Oct. 6

Absentee ballot deadlines–Request a ballot by Thursday, October 29.  Return your ballot by mail, postmarked by Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Early voting is available from Thursday, September 24, through Monday, November 2, 2020.

 

 

Additional information
You can also register and vote on Election Day. After the regular voter registration deadline of Oct. 6 you can register and vote in person during a grace period, which begins the day after the deadline and runs through Election day. During this grace period, you can register and vote at your local election office, a permanent polling place, at early voting sites, at some polling places on election day, and at any other location specifically designated for grace-period voting by your election authority.
