As its annual duty, at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, American Legion Post 328 will honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of Country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Community members are encouraged to gather at Veterans Park and Memorial in Grove Hill Cemetery, E. High Street, Morrison, IL, opposite Northside School. Beginning at 10:55 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, a short, reflective ceremony will be led by Jerry Brearton.
Brearton will offer brief remarks then call for a minute of silence, as participants face East–in the direction across the Atlantic Ocean, where horrific battles raged, from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918.
Morrison Firefighter Elayna Haan will sound the City-wide siren for the traditional minute of silence. She will be taught this significant action by Fireman Rob Hudson.
There will be three rifle volleys by American Legion members. As their rifle fire fades, Carolyn Aiken will play “Taps” to close the ceremony.
