Morrison Historical Society has planned a program for Sunday, June 22, 2014, that will pay tribute to women who left their mark on our community: the late Margy (Margaret) Haines and the late Anne Petersen. The Board of Trustees invites friends, family, former dance students, and the general public to help us remember these women at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Morrison’s Heritage Museum, 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, opens at 1:00 p.m. each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Haines was the only grandchild of Ferdinand and Lillian (Morse) Trautwein and the only child of Fred and Alene (Trautwein) Haines. Her grandfather drove the use of rural telephone service, beginning in 1901, and spearheaded its expansion as The Farmers Mutual Telephone Company. As an adult, she showed American Quarter Horses for 25 years. In 1997 Haines was inducted into the Illinois Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame. She died at age 77 on January 17, 2012.
Anne Petersen was born in Nancy, France, and studied dance. In Morrison, she became a beloved dance instructor at her Anne Petersen Dance Studio for 33 years. She died unexpectedly at age 77 on May 18, 2013.
If you did not know them, come discover Margy and Anne. If you wish, share a brief comment about either. Petersen’s daughter, Patti Austin, will attend with her family.
Personal items will be on display to mark their lives, arranged in a striking new display case built by master craftsman Mark Pruis of Morrison. Haines bequeathed her estate to many organizations, one of which was Morrison Historical Society. The Board used a portion of those funds to commission Pruis to create the impressive piece. He will be present to discuss his design.
The museum is accessible to everyone with a ramp at the rear of the building.
