It highlights an imagined hospital encounter between a Rebel soldier and a lawyer, who is–unknown to him–the President of the United States. The day before their meeting, a dejected President Lincoln had given his Gettysburg Address to a non-responsive crowd. He is plagued by both the war and his generals.
The bedridden Confederate has heard a newspaper account of the impressive speech. Without realizing it, he offers his Commander-in-Chief rare insight.
It is suitable for children and adults.
