HerbertDoeringHerbert Doering, Jr., 90, of Prophetstown, IL, died Sunday February 26, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.

Herbert was born September 7, 1926, in Sterling, IL, to Herbert and Mabel (Keefer) Doering, Sr. He was educated in the Prophetstown grade schools and was a 1944 graduate of Prophetstown High School. He married Katherine Bernadine Moore on March 3, 1946, in Prophetstown. Herbert had his own orchestra when he was in high school. He engaged in farming in the Prophetstown area and also drove a school bus for the Prophetstown School Dstrict for over 50 years. He owned and operated Doering Vans Lines in Prophetstown and was a bartender at the Forest Inn, Morrison, IL. Herbert was a member of First Congregational Church in Prophetstown and was a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He was an avid bowler and was Past President of the Illinois Bowling Association and a Past President of the Mississippi-Rock River Bowling Association. Herbert was a private pilot and loved to fly. He enjoyed boating with his family. He loved to watch “The Price Is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune” television shows.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine; two daughters, Ann (Larry) Drain of Cridersville, OH, and Penny (Terry) Boseneiler of Prophetstown; two sons, Roger (Terri) Doering of Morrison and Dennis (Peggy) Doering of Prophetstown; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, David A. Doering.

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Andy Ploenzke, Pastor of First Congregational Church in Prophetstown, IL

There will be no visitation.

INTERMENT:  Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown, IL

A memorial has been established by the family.
