Morrison High School Senior Kate Henson signed a Letter of Intent to attend University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point, WI, as a member of the Pointers Swim Team. The gratifying occasion took place beside the MHS pool, on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2:45 p.m.
Parents Andrew and Tracy flanked their daughter. Standing are sister Emily Henson and Maternal Grandmother Margie Wilkins.
Henson’s earlier Seahorse Swim Club and Junior High Swim Team Coaches were Jamie Harmon and her mother,Tracy, both of whom were Seahorse members as girls. Current Swimming Coach is Chelsea Brewer, at right.
Henson will study a course in Business Management over the next four years. Her university coach is Alan Boelk. Although the campus is 3.5 hours away, some swim meets will be held closer, in Chicago, IL. Her dormitory roommate is on the Pointers Swim Team, to facilitate keeping schedules similar. Twenty male and female Freshman are on the team.
A passion for swimming began with “the Morrison Seahorse Swim Club at age 7 or 8,” stated her mother, “before [Kate] was in Second grade. She still swims with them until mid-July. The Regional is July 15-17.” That competition “will be her last hurrah as a Seahorse.”
Henson trained and competed with the MHS Fillies Swim team. One of her strengths and a favorite event is the 100 yard Breaststroke. Last fall, the young woman broke Jamie Grau’s 100 yard Breaststroke Morrison High School record, at the Sectional High School Swim Meet on November 6, 2021. Grau’s 15-year record was set in 2006, with a time of 1:10.99.
Kate Henson accomplished her High School swimming goal by breaking that record. Her time was 1:10.44!
The MHS Fillies Swim Team joined their teammate on this momentous occasion.
