Henry G. Klavenga, 94, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Harbor Crest.
Henry was born November 11, 1923, in Fulton, to John and Fredreka (Zaagman) Klavenga. He was educated at the Independent Grade School of rural Whiteside County and was a 1942 graduate of Fulton High School. On November 3, 1950, he married Genevieve M. Maat in Fulton. She died September 7, 2010. Henry was retired from General Electric in Morrison, IL. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served on many committees, including the Consistory and Building committee. He also served on the Unity Christian School Board. Henry loved working in his workshop. He enjoyed music and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (Bob) Kilgore of Surprise, AZ, Janet (Mike) Gray of Erie, IL, and Linda (Bud) Morrison of Champaign, IL; two sons, Art (Claudette) Klavenga of Morrison, and Ray Klavenga of Fulton; eight grandchildren, Katrina Klavenga, Allie (David) Horst, Samantha Kilgore, Jacquie (Lee) Harlock, Rachel Ballard, Joseph (Nechelle) Gray, David Gray, and Jessica Treakle; three step-grandchildren, Tim Null, Rachel Marcial, Lindsay Jahr; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Victoria Ballard, Preston Horst, Jacob Heisler, Quinn Gray, and Riley Horst; three step-great-grandchildren, Carlee and Travis Null, Lexi Marcial; one sister, Clara Klavenga of Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve; one daughter, Barbara Kramer; three sisters, Bernice Klavenga, Angeline Miley, and Anna Braun; three brothers, Ike, David, and Martin Klavenga.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL.
Visitation is prior to the funeral service, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Interment is in the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.
A memorial has been established to Unity Christian School and Bethel Christian Reformed Church, both of Fulton, IL.
