Henrietta Fiet, 103, of Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Pleasant View.
Henrietta was born July 2, 1915, in Fulton, to Peter and Celia (Bielema) Balk. Her parents died when she was young, and Henrietta was raised by Klaas and Alice Postma. She was educated in the Fulton Christian Grade School. On February 12, 1935, she married Allen Fiet in Fulton. He died on February 17, 1999. Henrietta had worked for Vander Bleek Greenhouse, Rus’ Dari-Delight, and Harbor Crest Home, all in Fulton. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and had belonged to the church’s Rebecca Society. Henrietta enjoyed sewing, gardening, and taking care of her house plants.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Paul) Huizenga of Erie, IL, and Karen (Harry) Venhuizen of Burnett, WI; one son, Roger (Sharon) Fiet of Fairfield, IA; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; two sisters, Undine VanZuiden and Evelyn VanderArk-Vos; two brothers, Milo and Jacob Balk; two daughters-in-law, Judy and Jeanne Fiet.
The funeral service is 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018, at First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, with a visitation prior, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service. Co-officiating the service will be grandsons Rev. Jeff Fiet, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Scotts Bluff, NE, Rev. Steve Venhuizen, Pastor of Christian Reformed Church in Toronto, Canada, and Alvin Venhuizen of Christian Reformed Church in Waupun, WI.
Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL
Memorials to Unity Christian Schools in Fulton, IL, and Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, have been established.
The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
