Helen Axelson DeBord, 97, of Sterling, IL, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling.
She was born June 27, 1917, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Remmenga) Marquette. She married Axel Hermon Axelson on January 16, 1938, in Thief River Falls, MN. She later married Hiram A. DeBord on February 12, 1949, in Rock Falls, IL. He died March 11, 1993. Helen had worked at General Electric Co. in Morrison for a period of time and had been an Avon representative for several years. She was a member of Rock River Christian Center in Rock Falls. She enjoyed going to Golden Meals.
Surviving are three daughters, Christine Davis of North Aurora, IL, Barbara (Daniel) Murnane of Morrison, IL, and Diane (Philip) Marley of Arlington, TX; two sons, Eugene (Judith) Axelson of Sun City West, AZ, and Allen (Joy) Axelson of Fountain Hills, AZ; two sisters, Ether Johnshoy of Colorado and Frances (Mike) Johnshoy of Minnesota; four brothers, Fred (Melba) Marquette of Florida, Kenneth (Willey) Marquette of Minnesota, Spencer Marquette of Florida, and Franklin (Annella) Marquette of Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Hoffman and Agnes Swanson; two brothers, Roy and Richard Marquette.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2014.
The funeral is at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 11, at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL, with the Rev. Brian Vickers officiating.
Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls, IL.
A memorial has been established to Golden Meals in Rock Falls, IL.
