Hazel Merema (1914 – 2013)

Hazel M. Merema, 99, of Resthave Retirement and Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the nursing home.

Hazel was born January 31, 1914, in Fulton, IL, to John and Hattie (Buikema) Amman.  She was a graduate of Fulton High School and attended Scovill Business School in Clinton, IA.  She married Henry Merema on February 25, 1951, in Fulton.  He died November 22, 2006.  Hazel was first employed by the former Amman’s Royal Blue Grocery Store and for optometrist, Dr. Musk, both of Fulton.  She later was employed by General Electric in Morrison.  She also farmed along with her husband, Henry, in the rural Morrison area.  She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison.  Hazel enjoyed playing the organ, playing cards, and the visits and company of her family and friends.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, two sisters, Alda Over and Jeanette Wiersema; four brothers, Richard, Harold, Lester, and Earle Amman.

VISITATION:  12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICE:  2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL

A memorial to Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL, has been established.
