harriet normanHarriet Norman, 98, of Erie, IL, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at her home in Erie.

Harriet was born June 28, 1919, in Fenton, IL, to William and Gertrude (Borgman) Venhuizen.  She was educated in the Enterprise Grade School of rural Whiteside County . On April 22, 1941, she married Isaac “Ike” Norman in Fulton, IL.  He died January 14, 1997.  Harriet was employed by Norman Implement in Erie and Fulton Recreation Lanes in Fulton.  She was a member of Newton Zion Reformed Church in Erie, the church’s Ladies Aid Society, and PALS.  She was a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA, and a volunteer at Kings Kloset in Erie.  Harriet enjoyed bowling, cooking, and baking.  She was a lifelong Cubs Fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra “Sam” DenBesten of LeClaire, IA, and Illene (Stan) Eggers of Clinton; one son, Ron Norman of Erie; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many step-grand- and great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis Venhuizen of Morrison, IL; two step-sisters, Gertrude VanZuiden of Clinton and Alberta Brondyke of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike; one daughter-in-law, Janet Norman; three sisters, Grace Strating, Catherine Dykstra, and Jeannette Balk; two brothers, Fred Venhuizen and Jacob Venhuizen; two step-sisters, Jeanette Wilkens and Dena Wilkens; two step-brothers, Gerald Klooster and Harold Klooster.

Funeral services will be at noon, Monday, March 19, 2018, at Newton Zion Reformed Church in Erie, IL, officiated by Rev. Shannon Parrish.

A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

The interment and a graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.

The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Newton Zion Reformed Church or Genesis Hospice.
