Harper Lee’s Second Novel Releases July 14

Harper LeeThis is exciting news for admirers of famed author Harper Lee.

Associated Press stated that Publisher HarperCollins will release the second novel by 88-year-old Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird.  The publisher announced this unexpected information Tuesday, February 3, 2015, to enthusiastic fans around the world.  Completed in 1955, Go Set a Watchman was set aside for six decades.  Now the book will be released Tuesday, July 14.  

It “is essentially a sequel  to [the first novel], although it was finished earlier.  The new book is set in Lee’s famed Maycomb, AL, during the mid-1950’s, 20 years (1930’s) after To Kill a Mockingbird….”  Scout is an adult who returns to Maycomb.  Atticus and other well-recognized characters are involved.

Lee’s first novel was released in 1960 and has worldwide sales topping 40 million copies.  The film version will be shown at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Program Room. There is no charge. Refreshments will be provided.
