Harold A. “Bud” Burns, 90, of Albany, IL, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA.
Bud was born December 31, 1923, in Albany, to William D. and Laura V. (Sanders) Burns. He was educated in the Albany Grade School and was a 1943 graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. Bud was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II. He married Grace Ardith Yates on October 15, 1949, in Albany. Bud owned and operated Burns Heating and Air Conditioning of Albany/Erie, IL retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church, a member and past commander of the Albany American Legion – Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079, a member and past President of Erie Rotary Club, and a former member of the Albany Masonic Lodge. Bud was a Whiteside County Home Extension Master Gardener and enjoyed gardening, raising orchids, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Artie; one daughter, Diane (Leon) Lange of Thomson, IL; two grandchildren, Curt Lange and Kendra (Tobin) Kirk; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jacob Lange and Wyatt Kirk; one sister, Norma Naftzger of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin great-grandsons, Waylon and Jesse Kirk; two sisters, Sylvia Buikema and Alice Wray; two brothers, Richard “Dick” Burns and one in infancy.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
