Three generations of Harmons were very busy on their first open day, during the downtown Morrison, IL, Christmas Walk, Saturday, December 2, 2023. They had opened the door to 119 E. Main Street at 10:00 a.m. and announced closing time to the crowd at 7:00 p.m. Regular hours will begin Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, December 17, hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In August 2021, Paul and Jamie Harmon began working nights and weekends to create an upstairs, studio apartment, rental space. The apartment is rented. Included are a bedroom, bathroom, and open living space/kitchen, with a washer and dryer near the entry. Three windows each face Main and Market Streets. Access is by a staircase shared with Mahaffey’s On Main Street, 121 E. Main, with its three-bedroom rental apartment.
A year-and-a-half later, in August 2022, the couple and their family members began to redo the ground floor commercial space, formerly Baked by Liz (Fischbach.) Peanut Butter & Deli offers a variety of delicatessen foods, from breakfast to evening; salads; sides; desserts; coffees and other beverages.
Jamie noted her “parents owned a downtown business from the mid-1980s to 2000, at 207 W. Main Street” now Extreme Image Salon(, owned by Erin James.) “The Clothes Depot did screen printing.
“I felt Morrison needed this [new business], and I wanted to give back to Morrison. It is a good experience for our kids. In May 2024, we will have more full time hours, when Gracen (below) graduates from Northern Illinois University,” where she studies Graphic Design and Marketing. “She is the Manager; fifth grader Cort is our busboy.”
