Harlan M. Dornbush, 87, of Erie, IL, died Sunday, November 9, 2014, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Harlan M. Dornbush was born November 11, 1926, in Union Grove Township, near Morrison, IL. He was the son of Henry and Effie (Brondyke) Dornbush. Harlan lived nearly his entire life in the Western Whiteside County area, except while serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Catherine Feldt at Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, on September 30, 1955. Harlan was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He was a longtime member of Newton Zion Reformed Church, rural Erie. His greatest enjoyment outside of farming was gardening.
Harlan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Roy Dowell, East Moline, IL; son, Mark Dornbush, Erie; siblings and their spouses, Lester (Julie) Dornbush, Fulton, IL, Phyllis Geerts, Albany, IL, and Allen P. Dornbush, Albany; brother-in-law, David Ottens, Morrison; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, in 2008; brother, Gene Dornbush; sisters, Kathryn Dornbush, Helen Port, Audrey Sikkema, Sharon Ottens, and Shirley Dornbush in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Gibson–Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the Newton Zion Reformed Church, 10465 Frog Pond Road, Erie, IL.
Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery, Erie, IL.
