Harlan E. Johannsen, 87, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, September 19, 2015, at his home.
Harlan was born April 18, 1928, in Sabula, IA, to Otto H. and Anna M. (Ingwersen) Johannsen. He was educated in the Miles, IA, grade schools and was a graduate of Miles High School. Harlan served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Wilma Medendorp on September 19, 1964, at Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. Harlan began farming in the Miles, area. In 1956 he moved to Morrison, where he continued to farm. Harlan was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison and a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He was a life member of over 60 continuous years of the Morrison American Legion Post #328, where he served as Commander and as the Whiteside County Commander for the American Legion. While at the American Legion, he also served on the firing squad, marched in parades for Memorial and Veterans days, and placed flags on veteran’s gravesites on Veterans Day in several Whiteside County Cemeteries.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; one son, Keith (Amy) Johannsen of Morrison; two grandsons, Kelby and Avery Johannsen; one sister, Donna Loomis of Hanover, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rojean Duben.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes

VISITATION: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
