Saturday, April 9, 2016, finally offered a sunny day for the Morrison Fillies to play softball, but the cool temperatures paralleled the effort as the Sterling, IL, Golden Warroirs topped the Fillies 10-5.
The Fillies put two runs on the board as Emma Melton started the first inning with a single and then scored on a Jaeden Workman triple. Workman scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch, to take the early lead 2-0. The second inning started with an Emma Sitzmore home run. Sarah Ostrander was plated later following her single and two errors on a Melton ball, to make the score 4-0. Sterling tied the score with two singles and two doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning. A Brooke Stralow double scored Melton, who singled ahead of her, to retake the lead going into the bottom of the fifth. Then the wheels fell off the Fillies’ game wagon. Reliever Stralow allowed a fifth inning double and single, followed by three consecutive base-on-balls and two more singles, before getting out of the inning with the Fillies trailing 10-5. The Fillies were unable to generate additional offense and ended the day with a 10-5 non-conference loss.
