Girl Scout Cookies Came to Town

Posted by

KeepCalmDid the air smell sweeter after noon, on Monday, February 19, 2018?  It could be, because thousands of boxes of Little Brownie Baker’s Girl Scout cookies were delivered to Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris Street, in Morrison, IL.

Combined troop 1504 includes 30 Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette Girl Scouts.

Leader Hilary Blevins stated, “The girls sold 3412 boxes of cookies, some online, but the majority were done face-to-face with the public.  Online orders of 160 boxes were delivered early, directly to customers.  Today, the remaining 3252 boxes arrived.”

They are shown in these 271 cartons, where Lilah L. holds her order form for the cookies she sold.

Eight varieties are packed in distinct, color-coded cartons of 12.  As most cookie lovers know, Thin Mints make up the largest sales–here and across the United States.  The turquoise boxes, of “Toffee-tastic,” gluten-free cookies, comprise the fewest sales.

Andrew W. peeks from behind the Samoas.  He helped stack boxes.

Troop leaders, parents, and some of their children helped sort the cartons.  After the order was verified to be correct, they loaded cookies into vehicles for transport to Blevins’ mother’s house.  Here they were sorted again by color and stacked in the garage. Shown left-to-right are those who followed the Girl Scout slogan to “do a good turn daily.”  They are, front row, Lilah L. and sister Muira L; back row, Jen Boonstra, Andrea Ramirez, Blevins, Andrew W., Kelsie Lowery, and Meridith Layne.

Then, Blevins, and two women worked another hour, opening 271 cartons and resorting the cookies for each girl’s order.  Piles awaited parents to pick them up between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.  The last parent did so at 5:30.

Handling of the tasty merchandise continued in the homes.  Each girl and her parent(s) would pull the appropriate boxes of cookies to match a customer’s order.  The delivery process and payment collection would begin as early as Tuesday, February 20.

A second Morrison troop includes older girls: Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors.  Their cookies were delivered to the church at the same time.  The leader is Cheryl Neumann.

If you were not contacted by a local Girl Scout, look for upcoming cookie booths when you are out and about.
