Get on the Bus to Historic Auto Attractions

Start the summer travel season with a community day trip into the past.  Morrison Historical Society has arranged an exciting opportunity on Thursday, June 26, 2014, with appeal to adults and younsters.  About 50 seats remain aboard the Cheeseman Coach, which will transfer you to and from Historic Auto Attractions in Roscoe, IL, “a place where history meets entertainment.”  The coach will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return no later than 6:30 p.m.  A late breakfast/early lunch stop will be made at Cracker Barrel in Rockford, IL, followed by several hours to take in the museum. 

Take advantage of this rich opportunity.  The trip cost is $28 per person.  Reservations are due Wednesday, June 11, with checks payable to MaryEllen Brackemyer.  You may deliver them to her at Shawver Press, 100 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, inside the Whiteside News Sentinel office.

Roscoe is the hometown of racer Danica Patrick.  You can see Richard Petty’s 1960 Plymouth stock car, below, on display.

Much more than a display of 75+ historic automobiles, there is plenty to interest visitorsl  Note the world’s largest collection of Presidential and world leader limousines; Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Secret Service auto; John Dillinger’s getaway car; Indy cars; Elvis Presley’s 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV; TV land and movie vehicles, such as three Batmobiles and the Mayberry squad car!  Seek the Cadillac covered in 120,000 coins, too.

Historic Auto Attractions houses one of the most extensive collections of President John F. Kennedy and Kennedy family artifacts and memorabilia in the United States.  There are 18 outfits worn by Jacqueline Kennedy plus her children’s clothes.  Lee Harvey Oswald’s tombstone is on display, as well as the ambulance that carried him to the hospital.  The Lincoln Room is full of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia.

Kids will love the Turn-of-the-Century Room with an old West stagecoach and other period vehicles.

Veterans will enjoy many WW II artifacts from both Allied and Axis Powers.  Included are uniforms, maps, swords, knives, flags, banners, and more.

Shoppers will enjoy unique items in the large gift shop.
