Gerald L. “Jocko” Norman, 90, of Prairie Hills at Clinton in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Alverno.
Jocko was born January 25, 1929, in Fulton, to Jacob H. and Gertrude (Hoogheem) Norman. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1947 graduate of Fulton High School. Jocko married Jean Medema on April 6, 1949, in Fulton. She died September 7, 2015. He was employed by E. I. DuPont Company in Clinton, for 37 years, retiring in 1985. Jocko was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton and served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Choir member. He was a member of Fulton Country Club and served on the Riverbend School Board for 12 years. Jocko enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong Cubs fan.
Survivors include sons, Lonnie (Gail) Norman of Dowingtown, PA, and James (Laura) Norman of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Kurt) Barker, Mark (April) Norman, Dan (Abby) Norman, Emily Norman, Kyle Norman, Lindsey Norman, and Molly Norman; eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Ryan, and Sam Barker, Anders, Asa, and Aldo Norman, Huck, Leela, and Tate Norman; sisters, Mary (Isaac) Temple of Morrison, IL and Ardith Zuidema of Fulton; brother, Paul Norman of Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sisters, Lois Bush, LaVonne Dykema, Eunice Liebert, and Leota Norman in infancy.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Pastor James Fullan officiating, Pastor of the Gateway Bible Chapel in Clinton, IA.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.
A memorial to First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, has been established.
