George Medema, 83, of Prophetstown, IL, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown.
George was born July 17, 1933, in Union Grove Township, IL, to Jacob and Helen (Temple) Medema, Sr. He was educated in the Clyde School of rural Whiteside County, IL. He was first married to Donna J. Witt in 1951 in Morrison and later married Sharon Pritchard in 1992 in Washington, D. C. George farmed in the Morrison and Prophetstown areas his entire life. He considered farming his hobby and his life’s work. He attended the Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown and was a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. George enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Julie (Tom) Schumacher of Morrison, IL, Jean Medema of Tucson, AZ, Janice (Chuck) Swanson of Prophetstown, and Katie Medema of Madison, WI; five sons, Joe G. (Kathy) Medema of Polo, IL, Jerry (Mitzi) Medema of Watertown, WI, Jon (Monica) Medema of Prophetstown Jim (Beth) Medema of Prophetstown, and Kaleb Medema of Memphis, TN; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Irma (J. D.) McDivitt of Brighton, TN; one brother, Jacob (Eleanor) Medema of Fulton, IL; a special friend of the family, Pat Tarr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Jacob Medema and Zachary Schumacher; two sisters, Hilda Temple and Marian Ivey; three brothers, Edward, Garrett, and John Medema.
Cremation rites have been accorded
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL
OFFICIATING: Rev. Jan Shaulis, Pastor of Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL
VISITATION: 4:00 p.m., until the time of the service, Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home
