George Edward Entwhistle was born May 10, 1945, in Morrison, IL.  He battled kidney disease for several years, including dialysis.  He died January 19, 2022, in Iowa City, IA.

George attended schools in Morrison, where he became an Eagle Scout.  He went to the University of Iowa to study Electrical Engineering and graduated with a Masters Degree.
Playing trumpet, George was a proud member of the Hawkeye Marching Band.

His professional career was with several companies in the Chicagoland area, his last being with Motorola, where George was involved in the early development of cell phones.  He even traveled to France to help with the cell phone network there.

Being conscientious about physical fitness, George enjoyed playing handball and running.  He even completed at least one Chicago Marathon.

George married Joan in 1979, having met her on a ski trip.  They enjoyed both downhill and cross-country skiing.  George and Joan had three children:  Elizabeth, Christopher, and Gregory (Lucy.)  He is the proud Grandpa of Henry.

George fought with depression most of his adult life.  Besides the psychiatric medications prescribed, he also sought help through Alcoholics Anonymous.  He carried the message of recovery to untold numbers of others and helped many to achieve sobriety.  George died 39 years sober.  (He won!)

For the last eight years, George was comforted by his Emotional Support Dog, Stella, a golden beagle who accompanied him even to AA meetings.

He is survived by his three children; grandson; brother James; niece Mandy; nephews Jon (Gayla) and David.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lillian.

George worked hard to find sanity, sobriety, and serenity.  May he now rest in peace.
