The Morrison, IL, City Council convened on Monday, August 14, 2023, without Alderwoman Mahaffey in the chambers. The major portion of the time was filled with Aldermen’s opinions of the potential options for altering the traffic requirement, of the intersection of U. S. Route 30 and Genesee Street.  This non-Action item surfaced many alternatives for the future of the busy intersection. Due to the fact that any action to alter the intersection was not listed as an Action Item on the Agenda, Mayor Vandermyde could only listen to the discussion bought forward, without asking for any action. He noted that options for the intersection would be studied further and appear on a future Agenda as an Action Item.

Acton Items before the Council featured:

  1. street closure approvals to facilitate the festivities related to Paint The Town on September 16 and 17, 2023
  2. acceptance of the FY23 Audit of the City of Morrison performed by Hopkins and Associates of Granville, IL
  3. permission to submit a Grant application for the construction of a sidewalk and the future purchase of playground equipment for the Morrison Sports Complex
  4. pay request on the IL Route 78 Water Main Project ($327,066.97)
  5. change order on the Water Main Project on IL Route 78 (73,605.02.)

Action items A-D were approved by a unanimous vote. Item E was approved but received a Nay vote from Aldermen Tervelt and Zuidema.

The City announced the future opening of Morrison Charitable Food Pantry NFP on E. Lincolnway in the location previously housing Hilltop Lanes. Currently housed in Morrison United Methodist Church, the community is invited to visit the new location and support the Food Pantry in any way possible.
