The Monday, September 25, 2023, session of the Morrison City Council established Halloween Trick-or-Treat night as Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The above-date establishments preceded the Action of approving the purchase of a used Cub Cadet mower and loader for the price of $16,610.  The action included a clause that the purchase was pending the acceptance of the equipment by the current maintenance staff that would be operating the mower.

In additional Action, the Council authorized the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider the annexation of two properties owned by the City of Morrison.  The Commission would rule on the recommendation on zoning status, and if the annexation is beneficial to the City on property located at 14601 Norrish Road.

The final Action consideration involved the intersection of Genesee Street and Lincolnway and whether the traffic lights should be removed.  This discussion has been ongoing and the Mayor stated at the last City Council meeting that resolutions should be resolved on a step-by-step program, to accelerate the process. Conflict among the members regarding wording and resolution options caused the subject to be tabled.

Discussion items followed without action being taken regarding topics concerning:

  • lawn maintenance of Odell Public Library
  • a capital plan for future water and street maintenance
  • use of available motor fuel tax and sales tax for streets and water infrastructure
  • restructuring of voting wards to equalize the citizen population number per Alderman.

The Morrison City Council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 9, in the City of Morrison Community Room, at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Market Street, Morrison, IL.
