Since 1989, the Whiteside County Fair Board has honored those who make an extra effort to support the annual Fair.  They make the Fair as much fun as possible, for those who participate and attend the many shows and events.

In 2018, the Whiteside County Fair selected the Gary Folkers Family as “2018 Friend of the Fair.”  The Folkers Family has always been available to assist wherever there is a need; mowing and making sure the fairgrounds are well maintained; sponsoring and decorating the packer used for the Tractor and Truck Pull; sponsoring the wood carvers and making sure they have everything that is needed during the week.  The presentation ceremony was held Thursday, August 17, before the grandstand.  It was scheduled at about 6:15 p.m., between the Antique Tractor Parade and the Tractor and Truck Pull.

Fair Board President Paul Vock (black cap) stands beside Gary Folkers, who holds a service plaque.  Beside him are the Scott Folkers family.  Left-to-right are daughter-in-law Andrea; granddaughters Megan, 10, and Marissa, 13; son Scott, (behind Marissa) of Morrison, IL.   Board members attending the presentation are shown left-to-right:  Dan Heusinkveld; Treasurer Karl Kovarik; Todd Mickley; John Mosher; Brian Oostenryk, Jr.; Rob Vegter; Vice President Brian Oostenryk, Sr.; (partially hidden) Secretary Mary Beth Dombroski; Brad Noble; Mike Wiersema; Jon Brackemyer.  Marty Pierceson was not available.
