Morrison Garden Club and Master Gardener members beautified four visible locations in the City of Morrison, Friday, May 20, 2016. Take note of these: Odell Public Library 307 S. Madison Street; Veterans Park in Grove Hill Cemetery on High Street; the pocket park adjacent to Morrison’s Heritage Museum, at the northeast corner of U. S. Route 30 and IL Route 78; the Community State Bank space on the southeast corner.
Various plants were purchased with money raised during the annual Morrison Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 7.
Sharon Moore submitted “photos that I took at Veterans Park in Grove Hill Cemetery. We also cleaned out the leaves from the fountain…and swept it as well.”
Participants were Kathy Anderson, Cheryl Christianson, Diane Garcia, Jan Kelly, Mary Lutwesen, Jan Mayes, and Moore.
“Some of the annuals we planted, in six pots on [the] 78/30 corner,” Moore stated, “were Dahlias, assorted Coleus, grasses, Sweet Potato Vines, and Impatiens. At the library we planted two yew shrubs in back and one [flower] pot.”
“It was a long day. We got mulch and will lay more of it,” Moore concluded.
“We always use red, white, and blue Wave Petunias at the Veterans Park,” explained Moore. Other annuals were Salvia, Blue Veronica, and Yellow Coreopsis. A tiered water fountain stands in memory of Margaret Marie Clark, Miriam S. Robertson, and Russell Dean Renkes. It is ringed with spiky Red Salvia, among other plants.
Encircled with Wave Petunias and assorted annuals is a nearby decorative urn.
The women noticed a wee watcher, while working in the pocket park adjacent to Morrison’s Heritage Museum, at the northeast corner of U. S. Route 30 and IL Route 78. Moore photographed this curious duckling.
