The Sunday, March 15, 2026, Fulton Historical Society program will be held at 2:00 p.m., at the Native Habitat Restoration (NHR) site, located at 17170 Elston Road in Fulton, IL.

Dean Huisingh, Founder, Developer, and Director, will present a PowerPoint slide show.  It features the role the Huisingh Family Foundation, which is dedicated to saving Illinois plant and animal species, through conservation, restoration, and education.

Huisingh is pictured at left with Whiteside County Conservationist David Harrison.

Fulton Historical Society hosts their programs on Sundays six times a year at the Fulton (Martin House) Museum.  The opportunity to host our first “field trip” to the NRH site was appealing to our membership.

The topic will include the changes to the Illinois landscape since its early settlement, including loss of 99% of prairie land; rising numbers of endangered plants; wildlife that has been lost.  However, the shining star is that the Huisingh Foundation is actively restoring the natural habitat in our local section of the Earth.

Please join us on our first field trip experience.  Refreshments will be served by the Fulton Historical Society.  Call Barbara Mask with any questions at 563-321-0318.

Native Habitat Restoration site is at 17170 Elston Road, east of Fulton.  DIRECTIONS:  from the intersection of U. S. Route 30 and IL 84, go South on IL 84 and cross the railroad tracks; turn East (left) onto Holly Road.  Proceed about one mile to Elston Road.  The large, Native Habitat Restoration building is on the right.  There is ample parking, and the NHR building is easily accessible.
