Deciding if the sky had fallen or if River Bend Elementary School was been transported into space was a question for those attending on Monday, March 13, 2023. The evening was entitled “Family Fun Night.” All 200 parents and 250 students would agree to the description, that the halls and classrooms were converted, to accompany various activities the welcomed curious guests.
As parents and students journeyed the halls, they were invited to partake in an Astronaut Scavenger Hunt in search of 3-D printed astronauts, that would be distributed later to qualifying winners. As they searched, they viewed a math glow room; a word game room; a STEM activity challenge, utilizing a green screen and cameras; an art project; a Scholastic Book Fair.
The gymnasium was darkened and transposed into a center where students could enter a capsule. They viewed constellations in the cosmos not easily recognized in daily sky observations.
One creative room allowed children to construct star groupings, such as the Little and Big Dippers, out of stick pretzels and small marshmallows. They could eat their art upon completion.
The Library housed the Scholastic Book Fair. This allowed parents to explore literary options for their young and contribute to the school’s projects. The evening’s contributions totaled over $5000 to aid in future advancements toward improving their children’s education.
This Family Fun Night provided an opportunity for the community to inspect, collaborate, and contribute to the education that River Bend District is offering their students.
