From Father-in-Law to Son-in-Law

Passing the business ownership to a new generation is gratifying, for those who strove to create and sustain a successful enterprise. Such is true for Randy Muur, former owner of Morrison Tire Center, 318 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL. In March 2021, he transferred ownership to his daughter and son-in-law, Allie and Dan Beals.

Business hours still are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Muur was at work in the late afternoon of Friday, June 16, 2023, when the Editor visited. Beals said his father-in-law works in the morning, answering phone calls for service or parts.

“That’s the hard part” for Beals, because it takes him away from numerous services the business offers. Being the lone employee, he is kept “busy, taking on one task at a time. I average ten-to-12 cars a day. It’s busy!” Business is “almost back to pre-COVID time,” he stated.

“I run it pretty much like Randy did.” Beals orders parts and tires. “Tires come the next day; [items] from IWI in Clinton, IA, or CarQuest[-Morrison Auto Supply] come right away. I prefer that cars are not left overnight; it is rare that” it happens. “I don’t want the stress of being backed up.”

In addition to fast service times, MTC sells and repairs tires; brakes; shock absorbers and struts. They offer oil changes. Dan Beals does “not do in-depth engine mechanical work.”

But he is at your service for many other automotive needs.

Dan and Allie Beals are shown with their youngsters, left-to-right: Gabby age 3, one-year-old Sylvia, and Ryker, age 4.
