At the Convocation Center on the Campus of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, IESA State Championship Wrestling took to its first night, on Friday, March 11, 2016. Morrison Junior High School had two participants.
In the first match of the night, Colton Linke (75 lbs.) made easy work of his opponent, Ryan Tremble of Braidwood, IL, Reed-Custer. It was “all Linke,” with take downs and nearfall points, until he pinned Trimble at the 2:43 mark in the third period.
Not to be out done, first time State Qualifier Riley Wilkens (185 lbs.) made quick work of Caden Flanders of Petersburg, IL, Porta. Wilkens pinned him in just a matter of 38 seconds.
The boys enter the Championship Quarterfinal Round Saturday morning, March 12. Awaiting Linke is Zion Dooley of Cahokia, IL, Wirth Middle School. Eagerly waiting for Wilkens is Matt Burba of Algonquin, IL, Heineman Middle School.
