First Presbyterian Church House Razed

HouseGeneseeThis house, north of First Presbyterian Church, at 308 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL, was leveled on Monday, July 25, 2016.   No one had chosen to purchase and move the building for the $1 selling price.

Congregant Lester Mathew remembered, “One of the girls raised in that house was in my class in high school.  [It was] owned at that time by Olive and Clarence Hinrichs.”

Katie Selburg stated, “Burke Excavating of Tampico, IL, started the demolition process at 7:30 a.m., in order to beat the heat, and it’s down.  They will tear out the basement and fill [the hole], then return to apply seed.”

Earlier, the church held a sealed-bid auction of fixtures, doors, flooring, appliances, and other usable materials, that were taken from the house on Saturday, May 14, 2016.  For sale were a newer furnace; newer water heater; dishwasher; vanities; original wood trim, windows and flooring; air conditioner; cabinets.  Selberg said final scrap items were removed days prior to the demolition.

Pastor Mike Selburg’s photo shows “the end of day two, removal of concrete and foundation.”
