The Morrison Fillies ended the first day of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic Holiday Tournament, on Saturday, December 26, 2015, with a 52-45 loss to the Kewanee[, IL,] Wethersfield Lady Geese.
A slow start and a couple 3-pointers gave the Fillies an uphill challenge, by trailing 17-6 after the first quarter. They upped their energy level and attacked the middle of the Geese defense, resulting in seven field goals–compared to Kewanee’s two for the period.
The third quarter was back and forth. A 3-pointer by Jaedon Workman, with one second remaining in the third quarter, pulled the Fillies within four going into the final quarter. Wethersfield stretched the lead to eight, early in the fourth quarter, and played a game of keep-away, in an effort to run time off the clock. The strategy forced the Fillies to foul and put the Geese on the line 14 times, sealing the final score 52-45.
