The Morrison Fillies ended another successful season by yielding to the Rock Falls Lady Rockets in the IHSA Regional finals Saturday, May 19, 2013, by the score of 8-2.
Morrison allowed the Rockets to score when a two-out error on a dropped fly ball in the first inning allowed Cheyenne Burnett to become the first base runner instead of the third out. Burnett made it to third on a Jordan Giddings single and then scored on an errant throw from Kaitlyn Finneran while attempting to pick her off at third.
Morrison evened the score in the top of the third. Shannon Finneran led off the inning with a triple to the left field fence and then scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Morgan Ammon.
The Lady Rockets came back with three runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth. Pitcher Michaela Ward was limiting the Fillies to only three hits through the first five innings. The Fillies crossed one more run in the seventh, when Jessica Wieneke walked and later scored on a single by Ammon, but it was too little, too late for the Fillies.
The Lady Rockets advanced to the IHSA Sectional action next Wednesday. Final score was Rock Falls 8, Morrison 2.
