Morrison Fillies’ Lauren Pannier limited the Sterling, IL, Golden Warriors to one hit and one run through five innings, Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Elmhurst, IL, Tourney. She held a 5-1 lead going into the sixth inning.
A sixth inning run was earned with a single by Gould that followed a Staples double, to plate one run. The seventh saw Sterling score three runs on Kessler’s 3-run home run. A 2-run home run in the extra eight inning was enough to nail down the win for Sterling, 7-5.
The Fillies struck early against Sterling. Jaeden Workman powered a 3-run home run in the first inning and added another run in the second, on a Brooke Stralow single. Sterling inserted Eilers on the mound in the third inning. She held Morrison to one run in the fifth and closed the game without allowing another runner past second base in the last three innings.
