CelloCoverSliderA major fundraiser and an outdoor pops concert are on tap for the Clinton Symphony Orchestra this weekend.

The fundraiser, “A Symphonic Affair,” is Friday, May 31, 2019, at Rastrelli’s Tuscany Room, 238 Main Avenue, Clinton, IA.  The annual social event is famous for its food, spirited live and silent auctions, unique entertainment, and information about the upcoming 66th Concert Season of the orchestra.

Reservations are required for the event.  Call 563-357-9656 or use the Symphony’s website at www.clintonsymphony.org.  Cost is $50 per person; a table for eight can be reserved for $360.

On Sunday, June 2, the orchestra will perform a free, public pops concert in the Riverview Park band shell.  The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Activities for young people from the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center will be available, starting at 5:30, and area food vendors are expected to be nearby in the park.

Listeners are encouraged to bring friends, neighbors, and family; lawn chairs or blankets; perhaps picnic items.

During intermission, performers from the nearby Clinton Area Showboat Theater will perform selections from their upcoming season.  This is the 30th anniversary season for the Showboat.

Guest conductor Dr. Bruce Briney, Conductor of the Western Illinois University Symphony and the Quincy, IL, Symphony Orchestra, will lead the 50 musicians of the orchestra. Brian Dollinger, Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s popular Music Director and Conductor, is away.  He is participating in a Conductor workshop with the New York Chamber Orchestra.

In case of rain, the concert will move to U. S. Bank, at 405 S. 3rd Street, in the covered street-level parking area.
